Why It's Important To Have Your New Puppy Vaccinated

Posted on

If you have just brought home a new puppy, you might be thinking more about playing with your new puppy than you are about taking your puppy to the vet. However, in addition to taking your puppy to the vet for a checkup, you should also make arrangements to have your puppy vaccinated. This is important for these reasons and more.

Prevent Your Puppy From Getting Sick

First of all, the number one reason why you should think about getting your puppy vaccinated is so that you can prevent it from getting sick. Vaccinations help prevent serious diseases that could cause your puppy to get very sick. In some cases, small puppies can even die if they get sick due to not being vaccinated. Plus, even if a vet is able to nurse your puppy back to health, you could end up with an expensive vet bill.

Prevent Other Pets From Getting Sick

If you have other pets in the home, or if your neighbors have pets, then you probably want to do what you can to prevent those pets from getting sick, too. If you have your puppy vaccinated, you can take a responsible step toward helping keep other dogs safe, too.

Follow the Law

Believe it or not, there are laws in place regarding vaccinations for many pets. For example, you might be required by law to have your puppy vaccinated against rabies. If you don't follow these laws, you could face fees, fines, removal of your puppy from your home, and more.

Ensure Your Pet Can Be Taken Places

When taking your new puppy to certain places -- such as the dog park, a dog show, or the local kennel for boarding next time that you go on vacation -- you may be required to show proof that your pet has been vaccinated. If you go ahead and get your puppy vaccinated now -- and if you make sure that you keep proof of those vaccinations -- then you can avoid problems later.

Prevent Issues With Your Landlord

If you rent, you might be glad that your landlord is allowing you to have a puppy on the property. Just make sure that you find out about any rules that your landlord might have. Some landlords require their tenants to have their pets vaccinated, for example, and it could be a violation of your lease if you don't follow this rule. Contact someone in your area for puppy vaccinations information.
